I'm currently looking at a 93 J30 for aroung $4500 with 83K miles. usually I look for a good service history. However, the individual selling it (long story) has only had it a week. I don't think he is trying to rip me off, his story seems reasonable.

Car looks and drives very well. Rotors need to be turned. looks like some small seepage under the engine, I will take a closer look at that.

Strange thing, turn off the A/C completely and this chunk-chunk, chunk-chunk noise comes from center of the dash. It goes for a while and stops, sometimes longer, some shorter. Turn the system on (in any mode) and it stops immediately. Any Ideas A/C blows super cold!

Smoked in, but not bad, the car doesn't appear to be abused in any way. What to do, and more importantly what to look for!!!!

If I buy it will be contingent on a clean engine and transmission oil analysis.

Thanks!!!

Run the VIN at a dealer or with Infiniti Customer Service.

Might get a bid on evacuating the AC and replacing the drier.

Do visit Carlos' J30 website at fuzzycats.

I would definately call infiniti and have them check the service history for it. What is the reason they are selling it after only a week. I would definately have it looked at a little closer. Has the timing belt, water pump, starter, etc been changed. That would be the first to go. I would take a close look at that transmission fluid as well. The J30 is a great car if maintained properly. I would hate to have you buy it and then have to dump $1500-2000 right off the bat.

A common cause of oil seepage is the oil pressure sensor located near the oil filter on the lower third, aft on the starboard side of the engine. That 93 requires the timing belt to be replaced @ 60K then you're good for another 105K with the new kevlar belt.

Cweber, when you think about it, even spending $6500 after repairs on a reasonably maintained J is still a deal. These cars are beauties. What else could be had for that amount of dough that has the luxury of a J?

Just about every 10-12 year old car that is offered for sale has AT LEAST this much wrong with it.

The trick is NOT TO BUY thoses than need $8,000 .

A perfect [nothing expensive to repair] one is worth $4500 [private] but most are $3500 cars with 84k..........11 years old.

Your job is to pay an expert to evaluate it.
