Post

I have a 1993 Nissan 240SX and have some questions about installing a Viper 3606V alarm.

There are no power locks or power windows, so I am not using those features.

I’m not really interested in the remote start, but if I can get it to work, that would be fine.

The basics are working, but I have some questions.

Questions
  • How do I connect the starter kill harness?
    • The starter disable harness has three wires:

      • Green/White – Starter – Common (key side)
      • Green – Starter – Normally open (motor side)
      • Green/Black – Starter – Normally closed (motor side)
    • There are two existing starter wires in the 240SX (see photo):

      • Black with white stripe
      • Black with yellow stripe
      • Which wire should I use?
    • The manual has two options (see snippet):

      • “Normally closed starter disable” (“N/C”)
        • Green/White wire goes to starter wire heading to ignition switch.
        • Green/Black wire goes to same starter wire heading to starter.
        • That starter wire is labeled as “cut.”
          • Is this the wire that is black with a white stripe or black with a yellow stripe?
        • Plain Green wire is not used.
      • “Normally open starter disable” (“N/O”)
        • Green/White wire goes to starter wire heading to ignition switch (same as above).
        • Plain Green wire goes to same starter wire heading to starter.
        • That starter wire is labeled as “cut.”
          • Is this the wire that is black with a white stripe or black with a yellow stripe?
        • Green/Black is not used.
      • Which option is the correct one (i.e., “N/C” or “N/O”)?
  • Where is the wire for the trunk/hatch pin and what color is it?
    • The wiring sheet Crutchfield sent for a 1993 Nissan 240SX says it is red and the location says “sw. or light in trunk.”
    • Does this wire run to the front of the car or do I have to run a separate single wire from the trunk to the front of the car?
    • Among all the wires running on the driver’s side close to the door (see photo), there are two red wires. One is separate and the other is loosely twisted with a green wire. I tried the separate one, but it didn’t work. Is the trunk/hatch pin wire among these wires?

  • The installation guide shows (1) one wire (white/brown) for the “parking light isolation wire – Pin 87a of onboard relay) and (2) one wire (white) for the “parking light output.” The wiring sheet has only one wire for “parking lights.” It is listed as red/blue and located at the back of the dash dimmer. There are two such wires (see photo). One runs to the dash dimmer switch and the other runs upward (maybe to the dashboard?).

    • What do these alarm wires do?
    • Which Viper wire connects to which existing Nissan wiring?
