My car seems to smoke pretty bad while at idle but it doesnt seem to be losing any oil or coolant level. And for the people who say it could only be losing a little at a time i did an oil change 2 months ago and its still on full. What could be causing it. Im so confused.

moisture. if it's not burning coolant or oil and it goes away after the first couple minutes of start up, don't sweat it.

thats what i meant to put before. it doesnt go away. but its not constantly pouring out either. if im at idle i can see the smoke moving to the front of the car. it sort of smells like oil but im not losing any or not showing it at least.

mines doin the same damn thing. when i sit for a while i can smell it and especially when i back up. if i sit a a long red light it starts to puff. i went to a drift event in saint louis and had to sit in line for about 30 minutes. the car was smoking really bad. but after i was able to drive off it quit doing it. i think it could be valve guide seals. my plugs looked fine except for white powder from running too lean but i got that fixed.

Are you sure its blue smoke(burning oil) and not black(carbon deposits)? My 91 does it on occaion but its black smoke from running a little rich at idle.

smoke at idle from sitting a few minutes indicated bad valve stem seals.i just did mine and am going to start it up for the first time since it went under the knife tomorrow. ill get to see if i ****ed up the install on any of them, because it should be smoke free.but to be sure its not your headgasket or rings, do a compression test. if numbers are high(mine were around 160ish iirc) and dont vary much from each other, then yes its 99.9% likely its your valve stem seals. not THAT hard to do, you just need special tools. i got everything needed for 100 bux from ebay if you want to do it yourself. itll save you a ton of money instead of taking it to a shop and having the charge out the *** for it. and the seals themselves are only like 20 bux.look for a writeup on how to change the seals in the next week or so, im about to help a friend do his seals, so im going get him to let me use his cam while were doing the install.

edit: wow i just noticed this thread was made last year.

nah it wont hurt anything.but you will need to check oil often and make sure its full. also over time the seals will get worse which means more oil burning. and itll cause you to not pass emissions if you have any.
