Recently had a new clutch installed. Now when I start the car, I hear this whining noise whenever I have the clutch pressed in. Once I put it in gear and start moving, it stops, until I shift, the noise starts back up until I give it gas again.

The noise stops after I've been driving a few minutes, and it's been making the noise less often over the past week or so.

The clutch seems to operate just fine, but I don't know what to make of the noise, it's not a chatter so much as a whining noise.

Is this normal? Did my mechanic not resurface my flywheel? Could it just be the ridiculous Missouri climate?

Any help would be much appreciated.

allright if it is wining when the clutch is pushed in only, it is most likely your throw out bearing. from what I understand, that is your problem. I am not sure if you are saying it whines when it is out too or not.

No, only whines when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor (or you know, enough to engage it.)

is this something i need to have a shop look at, or is it not a big deal? i don't really mind the noise since it stops after a few minutes of driving, but if its something that will eventually effect drivability, i'll get it checked out.
