I don't want to get flamed, so I wanted everyone to know I've looked at the following threads already:

Successful S13 rear factory amp bypassRear speakers don't work

And MANY MORE!!! None of the other threads really apply because I actually am keeping the factory setup.

I have a 1993 240SX Fastback with the active speaker system

*Factory Radio Installed*Rear Speakers NOT working*Front Speakers working, but sound crackly*Tested speakers at rear, no power getting to them*Removed factory radio, found an extra harness (smaller one) just dangling in there. All the others are plugged into the radio.

I like the factory radio and I'm not going the aftermarket route. I want to know this:

*What is that extra plug hanging behind the radio?*What could be causing this?*If I bypass the amps and go directly to the speakers, will the factory radio provide enough power?*I need to replace the factory speakers (they're in nasty condition). Any suggestions for that?

Anyone have any ideas?

I believe that there should be 2 plugs plugged into your radio. one big, one small. the small one i think is your rear speakers. (this doesnt include your antenna plug... it is a coaxial wire that looks similar to your tv cable at home)

If your factory amps are shot (most likely) then you will need to get an aftermarket cd player to power any new speakers you buy. If you want to stay OEM, then you will pay DEARLY for replacements... or you might be able to find someone on the boards with some old amps.

Check your fader (front/rear) to make sure that your fade isnt faded to just the front. This is commonplace for S13 hatch owners as the rears just rattle and make farting noises when turned up. Nissan really didnt give two shiats about sound in the rear of the S13 hatch. If that doesnt work, make sure that the small connecter in the back of your radio isnt one with 4 wires and is just not plugged in. That may be your problem right there.

Let us know. if it was the fader and you dont want to feel dumb, just message me to let me know that it was it.

Good Luck!!!

When I took out the radio, here's what I saw:

Coming out of the dash are four plugs: One is the antenna, one is a larger harness, one is a medium harness, and one is a smaller harness.

The Antenna, large and medium harnesses are plugged into the radio. The smallest one looks like the other two that are plugged into the radio, but smaller. It's just hanging there.

*laugh* The fade has been checked...when i fade to the back, it goes totally silent.

Come on folks...someone must know what's going on here!

Anyone know where I can get aftermarket replacement amps for the factory system? How about that?
