I'm replacing the valve cover gasket that has been leaking slowly since a mechanic shop replaced the head last summer. My question is, do I need to put a bead of liquid gasket down before placing the valve cover back on the head? They did not use anything but the rubber gasket when they did it, but it leaked.

When I did mine I was told just to rub some oil on it lightly (clean obviously). I'm not 100% sure (the car hasn't run much since I did this) but I think it's leaking now. It could just be my imagination though, I cleaned everything and the car isn't running again yet, so I guess I'll know when I start her up next time.

^^^wtf???

anyways...here is what you want to do. when you replace the gasket you can puut some grease or a bead of silicone on the valve cover. but keep in mind, if you remove the cover for any reason, you might have to remove and then reapply each time you do it..make sure its dry before you do anything more. then for the half moons just add some grease or a bead of silcone.on them. slowly and carefully lower the cover on the head. once its set properly, start adding the bolts start with the outter four corners(it makes it a little easier to get it aligned. then tighten but not to tight.
