Before I had a rough idle that would idle low and sometimes stall. I cleaned the throttle body and changed the spark plugs and air filter. Then the idle was too high. When starting up it would be almost 1900, and when warm was at 1400, sometimes going lower. Was coming back from work with the idle still high when starting it up, got a few blocks and the car started to surge, then it stalled. Now I cant get it started again. Any ideas? Thanks

Check your larger vaccum lines and the large hose clamp holding the intake hose to the throttle body. Also look at the one inch hose on your intake tube before the throttle body are they completly on and secured. Any hole in that tube from the air cleaner to the throttle body will cause a high idle and/or stall no start. You have to make sure none of those hoses on that tube are loose.

Went back to my car today and it started right up, black smoke came out the back so I mustve flooded it trying to start it the day before. I still have the high idle, it never gets down below 1000. When I blimp the gas pedal it revs, then drops right away by like 500rpm then climbs again.

Check for the leaks I mentioned.

I checked all my vaccuum lines and they seem to be okay, I sprayed some liquid fire and everything seemed okay. I was able to drive it, the idle is better, still a little high though. The idle did flucuate a couple of times in nuetral, it would flucuate a couple hundred rpms. Still trying to figure it out.

THis soudns a little simialar to what happened to me so I'll try something.

A similar thing was happening to me adn it tool me a while to figure it out. Turned out one of my fuel injectors wasn't firing and teh other three were out of it a little two. YOu can test by listening to teh clicking noise they make by using a long flat head and place the metal end on the body of the injector and the other to your ear and you should here them clicking. Hope this helps.

When you cleaned the throttle body you might not have gotten it on the right way, possibly you positioned the throttle position sensor wrong, or just re-installed the throttle body itself. The high idle can be caused by the throttle body not closing all the way.
