IS it worth it to have a shop rebuild, understand the clutches or such wear out. This one only had 49K when it went, In pristine condition, other then auto and crack in rear window.. We plane ot keep it 100% original. Is there a repair kit for these, and "S" covers what models (1993). Again not overly familiar with the 240s. Even the most basic stuff helps. Have checked junk yards in area but none there. One local guy claims he can fix these but wary as he claims, he can fix "anything". Wants 690 for rebuild. What is reasonable cost for the tran from yards.Hijacker wrote:All S-chassis automatic transmissions come with overdrive included. I would consider a salvage yard transmission. It's a simple transmission, so plenty of shops can work on it. Just call around and find who in your area does the best work.
When put in gear there is a very slight whirring noise, the car might move a bit but soon stops, will do same in reverse, and park does work. Jacked up rear and tried it, pretty much same thing. Fluid is fine. You can hardly notice change when going from N to D, sounds like something is spinning but no harsh or loud noises. Idea's and wonder if any on forum did the conversion to stick and have auto laying about. Got to tell you this was wife's first ever new car, she loves it, but we have to keep to strict budget/ She is now "in late 60's and we start it periodically and keep it clean an waxed as best we can as sets in car port. She was single when she got it, but looks forward to it on road again. My Hound had never ridden in convert before and was totally astounded when top went down... One way or other will get it back on road, for now she has some medical issues, but does miss the beastie and I am impressed with how good it t=handled and the MPG, very nice machine. Will look at the site you sent. Again we really do appreciate the helpblkvrtswp wrote:Also - you say it "went". What, exactly, does this mean. Slipping shifts? Wont go in any gear? Grinding noises?
Sorry for delay, but wife has serious health issue and it will be costly, even when we are seniors. So if ANYONE out there wishes to do some charity and send us 240SX auto trans, would really appreciate it. We must now watch every dime for next year or more.. I guess I can install, but will be done in carport. For now thanks for all the ideas, would not spend $700 for rebuilt and simply cannot afford to buy used now. Note the SX is a convert my wife bought before we met, her pride and joy as first new car she ever bought.. would love to get it going.. Again thanks to all...blkvrtswp wrote:$700 for a full warranty automatic transmission rebuild is reasonable.
BUT I would definitely try to find a used one - many are pulled for engine swaps and 5-speed swaps with very low mileage / no abuse. Should be dirt cheap like the post above states.
Good luck.
Copy of what I sent to other poster, just a thanks and perhaps someone on 240 has one from 5 sp or such. Sure would help wife's morale as past few months a medical disaster...buckandahalf wrote:Auto transmissions from my local pull-a-part is $75 with a $25 core charge.
