I seem to have lost my only key to my Q, Its a 92' so my question is does anyone know if the dealership will be able to simply cut me another or is there an easy way to order a precut one by vin?? Also are there any pics posted that can help someone not mechanically inclined to check and see if the guides were updated, I know about checking for the red rvt sealant i just dont know were to look?again I dont know too much about engines so pics or a simple explanation would be great!! also if any one knows of a site where I can check my vehicle history for free that would be great, or at least the cheapest

If you don't have a friendly relationship with an Infiniti service writer, call Infiniti Customer service and they can recite your service history after they pull it from the archive. Not public information, so not posted anywhere.

Infiniti dealer can order a new OEM key, bu you must order in person and prove ownership of the vehicle of the VIN for which you are purchasing the key.

Timing chain threads are in IOM. If you truly do not have the ablility nor the tools, find someone who does.

Checking is easy as just the front covers need to be removed. Search body of posts and archived posts.

Not sure if this is accurate or not, but I was told by my dealer to NOT lose the key for my '94 Q45t, that is was made of Titanium, and could only be laser cut by Infiniti in Japan. Cost in '96 was stated as $275, with a wait of several weeks to get it made and mailed. Perhaps someone else here knows if that's actually the case. Luckily, I got TWO complete sets of keys with mine, and never lost any.

Side note: An old Navy habit from when I wore tailor-made Dress Blues with 13 button pants that had no exterior pockets, I always, to this day, stuff my keys inside my waistband, with the car key hanging out over my belt. Everyone that saw my big Infiniti key remarked on it. Now with my '05 Q45, no one notices. It looks like any other remote key fob.

You'll have to have the key code for a locksmith.

McLock Locksmith (864) 934-3411 or (864) 231-9671 E-mail: [email protected]

I believe the OEM ignition key is steel alloy. A softer brass one will wear the locks and ignition quicker. Don't get aluminum. Dealer should get the key in a week.

The key code came on a small metal tag attached to oem key set of 4 keys.

Infiniti can look it up by VIN or an expert very expert locksmith can remove trunk lock and decode the code..............probably less expensive to have Infiniti find it.

But you must be registered with Infiniti Customer Service as the owner of the car, so do that first.

found it!!!!, now to check those guides before I start her up, Does anyone know when the defect was found?? point being if my Q was serviced regularly by the dealer 'till 60,000 or roughly 1999-2000 do you think the dealer knew about the chain guide issue and recommended the update??if i purchased a carfax report would that tell me?? the car was originally from California if that makes a difference i dunno, i know there arent many Q mechanics who can do the guides in Maine, maybe the dealership in westbrook, but I cali it might be a different story

The defect becomes most apparent to the unwary owner when the engine seized.

You would be wrong about dealer service. To most manufacturers, failing timing chain guides are not a defect.

If they were replaced by the dealer, it would be noted on the Infiniti dealer service report you obtained before purchasing the car.

In CA,

can perform any work you need.

i don't care what other people say your a great help, jkjk, thank you for your help u r very educated on Q's and between you and elwesso i think your giving infiniti in japan a run for their money. now I know your a stickler for research 1st and this may sound like a dumb question but I have searched all through the archives and cannot locate a pic of the timing chain cover or timing cover whichever it may be, Id like to see one so I can check the rtv sealent no links just a shove in the right direction, or an easy way to check the sealant color
