Now that I have the 450Z running, I find that it's "one wheeling" around most of the corners. If you look at the first vid here you'll see what I mean: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/563982Has anybody had any luck rebuilding one of these diffs? Or should I be looking for a lower mileage unit to replace mine?

The Q diff is a viscous LSD. It is probably shot. You might try replacing the fluid.

The R32 Skyline GTR uses the same basic unit, only it is a mechanical LSD. That is what you really want. The gearing is lower, since it is a 4:11 where the Q is a 3:56 (or so). I understand it is a relatively simple swap.

I have one for my Q, but need to get the ABS sensor to work by either fabricating a sensor mount for the R32 diff, or swapping the guts into a Q case.

The Viscous Module is sealed and has a finite life..........in US we try to find low mileage [<60k] wrecks as frequent substitutes.

I sort of thought that the used market would be my first stab at remedying my problem as with the 6 spd manual that I'm running I do not want to loose the 55mph 1st gear and the 1700rpm @ 75mph.Thanks for the tip.

Last time I spoke with Unitrax, they said that they could hook up a Quaife limited slip into the R200. But the price is not going to be cheap. BTW, I've been following your project. Nice work. Good to see the car on the road finally.

Well I have now toasted 2 VLSDs and am growing tired of spinning one wheel all of the time. So I am looking at getting a KAAZ clutch type unit for my Q45 diff. As you can expect they do not list the Q45, so I have to find what other Nissan would have the same housing/half shaft splines. My best guess is that the Q and Z32 have the same rear suspension and the diff is the same size and type. Would it be safe to say that the diffs are the same, expect for the ratio?Could anybody on this list confirm that the Z32 (1990-96) 300ZX NA diff is the same as the 92 Q45 diff, other then the fact the gearing is different?Has anybody done this swap?Let me know as I have a race in 3 weeks and need to order soon. Thanks

the q45,240sx and the N/A 300zx have the R200 diff but im not sure anybody has put an aftermarket lsd on a q45. you shold consider the r32 gt-r skyline diff, make sure its the gt-r with the rb26dett engine.

I'm sure that the internal parts for all R200V diffs are the same. I'm just trying to confirm that the half shaft flanges have the same spline that goes into the diff.I like the 3.5:1 ratio of the Q45 diff, I'm sure the GTR has a much more aggressive ratio.

I came across this old post while searching for the q45 30 spline count LSD's. I dont know if you are aware of this yet as the last post in this thread is over 4 months old BUT, NOT ALL R200V DIFFS ARE THE SAME. The NA z32, the J30, the 240sx (if equipped) all came with the 29 spline output shafts which measure 29.8mm in diameter. The R200v diff that came in the 1990-96 Q45 is a 30 spline with a diameter of 30.7 mm.

I am in the process of trying to find out if the 1997 - 02 45's came with that same 30 spline 30.7mm output shaft.

It does give specs in the AX section of the FSMs.

Just because I was curious, I looked up the R200 unit that comes in the front of the 96-04 Pathfinders, 00-04 Xterras and it's a 29 spline, 30.4mm diameter shaft. How sure are you it's 30 spline vs. 29 spline?

I'm sure because I have tried it when I built my 4.08's!

I know for sure they're 30 spline, pulled them and counted on my 90 Q45 diff.

Hmmm, looking at the FSM's I cant find the "AX" section. I found the PD and the RS sections. Rear suspension and the Propeller shaft and diff carrier. There is no info in those sections on side flange/ output shaft spline count for the 98. I looked in the 97 on NICO but there wasn't much of anything for the 97's, so I went to the 98's instead.
