So, it's been quite a while since I've been around - too busy building my garage - but necessity has driven me back...

Just recently, the shifter release switch (on the brake pedal) has stopped working, meaning we have to release the console shifter by depressing the unlock button at it's base, so we can get the vehicle out of Park. No biggie, I'm assuming the switch is bad, so I'll check it out when I have time.

But a couple of times now, the engine has failed to shut off when turning the key to the "off" position. Everything just stays running as if the key is "on". The first time this happened, we had already pulled the park brake up, so I released it and the engine quit. Yesterday, the same thing happened, but the park brake did not effect it. It just finally decided to quit on it's own.

So, are these two things related? I'm trying to think how the two systems would be interlocked, but I'm a little stumped. Any ideas out there? And has anyone else had a fault brake switch?

Thanks for the help.

you probably have spilt something into the shift interlock solenoid located right below the shifter. This solenoid needs to be replaced.

The run on problem sounds like a possible ignition switch issue.

Thanks Man,

Appreciate the feedback. I will definitely check the bad solenoid issue. I'm also thinking it may be the switch at the brake pedal arm, because I have an after-market car starter that uses a brake signal to lock the doors when initially engaging the vehicle - this is also not working anymore, telling me that there is no (+) signal coming from the switch - - a couple of things to check. In the meantime, I think I will simply secure the "override" button at the base of the shifter so it is permanently pressed. At least this will allow us to still use a one-handed shifting out of park.

I think you're right about the ignition switch - I assume the two problems at the same time are simply coincidence.
