Hi all.
Haven't posted in about two years. Different name back then but still the same car (1992 Q45 with 172k).
I have a signifigant oil leak around the front of engine. It accumulates in the Valley underneath the plenum. I have to add about a quart every two weeks or so. I know, I know...I should be pulled out back and beat with a rubber hose for not addressing this issue sooner.
From what I can tell the main seal in the front is the culprit. The valve covers have been redone and sealed with no leaks. However the whole front where the belts are and what not are not oil free. They are oil "full". The oil pain has a good bit as well. Maybe just drippage from the front or the pan gasket needs replacement as well.
Anyways, I have searched various threads and would like some clarification on whether or not this is indicative of some serious chain guide problems (not replaced) or whether this is a seal issue. You can exchange the rubber hose with a steel pipe now, if you want.
So is the leaking from the front related to a guide issue or are they two different problems. And by fixing one (guides) the other is rectified as well.
But yeah, the oil in the Valley is not good. I had a dry Valley for so long and today after driving for only about 15 min I had a nice amount of smoke coming from my vehicle. Embarassing and terrifying at the same time. I will try and diagnos this further when the sun comes up, until then.....
