Hi!,

I own a 1992 Nissan D21 (the 2.4L 5-speed), and I think my clutch is beginning to slip, it has 312,000 km, and I hear whining noises as well when I drive (both when clutch pedal is pushed and while coasting in gear). I am just wondering how hard is it to redo the clutch myself (I am novice at best when it comes to mechanics)? Is their a good DIY article to read? Any insight would be appreciated.

Sincerely Yours,

That sound is most likley your throw out bearing going out. Just order a new clutch kit and it will come with an alignment tool, clutch disk, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. and just throw that on the and that should help the noise problem.

You can always just replace the bearing but i figure since your pulling it apart anyway you might as well to that too.

Changing the clutch is not that hard. You have to jack/raise the car up high enough so give the transmission some space to take it out. Take out the driveshaft, the clutch cylinder(the thing that hooks up to the clutch fork), wires attached to the transmission, and the engine/transmission bolts. Pressure plate(attached to the engine) should be accesible so does the clutch bearing(attached to the transmission). You should know what to do by then. I advice that you still buy a Auto Repair Manual for your hardbody just incase you get stuck along the way. Good luck!
