According to the Service Manual for a '93 Hardbody,, the VSS is built into the Speedometer.

Since the Speedometer is Cable Driven,, I'm guessing that there is an issue with the Cable. The manual goe's into replaceing a Broken Cable. The Cable may have came unplugged from the Back of the Cluster Unit.

I don't have any experience with a VSS,, but since the Speedometer is cable driven,, I'm Guessing that the VSS is for the Cruise Control Unit.

Your '92 may be different, so you really need to consult the Service Manual. I think there is a place here that you can download it.

If what I said is incorrect,, somebody please correct me,, as I never had a problem,, with the Speedometer or Odometer on the '93 that I had for 20 years.

Good Luck
