I am doing an engine rebuild on my KA24DE. I wanna do the head too because it was burning some oil when I gased it after idling for a bit. I figure it is the valve seals. I already ordered new valve seals so that I could replace them. Could someone recomend the right valve spring compressor to take the valves out. I read that some people have had some trouble because its not the standard tool you can rent from a store.

Here is a picture of the head. The vavles in the #4 cylinder are blue.

Can I just put in the new valve seals in without machining the head, or is it really worth paying to machine it?

at least get the valves lapped. it'll provide for a better fit and it's cheap to do. But you should probably get the head decked for just in case.

The part you may have to order from dealership unless I can find that link to the parts store that his dealership is getting their parts from.

You should be able to use a large "C" type valve spring compressor.

If the head surface is distorted beyond 0.1 mm, it should be resurfaced but don't cut it more then 0.2 mm; if you do, the cam timing will be affected.
