I am having a hard time finding the problem with this maxima since it's the first time working on one. Ok here are the symptoms

The car runs fine in park (its auto) but when you take it on a drive is when this very irradiating issue starts. The car will drive fine and then at different rpm's and different throttle points the car will stumble and hunt until you release the TPS and get back on it. If you press more on the gas when the problem starts nothing happens. I have try data login but the connection to the consult disconnects the second the problem starts. And the ECU throws no codes. just a 55.

I have check for bad relays, replaced the TPS, and ECU. I have read about the coolant sensor cause stumbling issues on 96 maxima's and tried that as well. The next thin I am going to try is check ECU grounds. Since it appears that the ECU is turning off for a second and doesn't know where the TPS is until I release it fully.

There is also a recall on the car for the igniter that say's it has driving issues but nothing more. I will be getting the recall fixed soon as another attempt to fix this PITA

Thanks for your help in advance.

ecm relays are a common failure on those cars. if you are loosing consult at the time of malfunction its prob the ecm relay.

the first thing I swaped was the ecu relay with another relay. and still same problem. I also was able to get the car to do the same stumble in idle today. Instead of hunting it just die's.

one of your coils is bad. When you are able to make the car do it under accel on que try disconnecting one coil at a time until you find the one that does NOT cause the car to fall on its face and the scan tool to go dead. There is not a recall on the ignitor for the maxima. There was a TSB on it years ago.

BTW you failed to mention you have the VE engine and not the VG.

Damn my crystal ball is on fire today..lol
