I can't seem to get the correct Idle just using the IACV screw, so I tightened the throttle so it's a tiny bit open and that holds the idle well. But I was wondering if I'm having a hard time adjusting it because I removed all of my emissions and the only vaccume line goes directly from the intake mani to the FPR. The iacv screw is out all the way and the engine still won't run high rpm's until i crank the TB back a little. Any help is appreciated!

To adjust the idle you essentially have to fool the computer. Warm your car up and shut it off. Disconnect the TPS, (throttle position sensor) should be a 3 pin connector right above or just around the throttle body, it might take 2 times cause your car may not want to idle the first time. Once you get it running, play with the screw until you get your wanted idle, shut the car off, plug in the TPS then start it back up, should be idling where you set it, or within a couple rpm. Hope it works, if it doesn't, it could be your emissions stuff.....

Alright, this is causing me problems still. I still haven't gotten my car running NOT RICH. I adjust the idle screw but it doesn't do ****.The only way to adjust my idle is to tighten my throttle cable till its open slightly .

I'm looking for second opinions on the problem probably being the Idle air control valve (IACV). Or either the air regulator (but probably not cuz the idle is nice and high when the engine is cold). I think i need a new iacv, but can that really cause a car to run so rich? I hope so, because it's not letting air in i guess.Any help is always appreciated! As well as guys who have spare IACV's. shoot me an email.

yeah, u'll run rich as hell if the IACV isn't working. kinda surprised it would even idle. when ur throttle plate is closed, ur IACV kicks in so the motor can breathe. i'd say u need to replace it.

Awesome advice. Yeah the only reason it can idle is because I change the plugs every time i try to start it because they're fouled already from the last 5min of rich idle. I have it down to either the IACV, the throttle sensor, or the air regulator. One at a time. Thanks guys, going to a few junkyards tomorrow, I'll let you know how it turns out!

air regulator is only on when the engine is warming up. squeeze the hoses as it offshoot to air reg to see if it is stuck closed. unlikely. squeeze the hose at the iacv. if nothing happens you know the iacv is not opening.

You guys were right. The IACV was broken. I got another one (LUCKYYYYY THANK GOD) they had one at EZ pull and save (for those of u around SE PA, huuuge junkyard). Put it in with new platinum plugs and bam, started and idled smoother than it's ever been. It sounds like a normal car now! lol. I'm getting the frame rail rust fixed and then it's off to inspection! Thanks so much guys, now i can finally get my @$$ in gear. Literally

+1Oh yeah, and it was the updated iACV too lol.

U say u got the updated IACV? is the plug on the motor brown or black? I'm looking around and all i see is the brown connector. Its not the same as my harness.

ALso how did u know the iacv was bad?
