search, search, search.

It's cheaper/easier to do a KA turbo in my opinion. The amount of money it takes to get a SR swap all paid for and installed in your car would yield much more power if you spent that much on a KA. The SR swap will only get you about 180rwhp or so with a stock set up. I put the stock SR set up (SR turbo, injectors, etc) on my KA and it was thousands less, and I got 200rwhp/205rwtq when i dynoed it - my compression wasn't that great, so if your motor is healthier than mine, it'd put out a bit more power I'm sure. Another thing is torque - SR's don't have much, while KA's tend to have a handful more.

There are pros and cons to each set up - my advice is to search around and visit both KA-T and SR forums and decide which one is for you - and go for it.

a SR swap has just become a dumb fad with 240's, especially with people that don't own them. I don't know how many people have told me that I should of gotten an SR instead of turboing the KA, and then I tell them I make at the wheels what a SR makes at the crank, with the exact same set up as a SR (same turbo ,injectors, boost) and they just go "oh" and fade off. No one really knows what the KA is capable of...so really - don't listen to anyone that says "d00d U should get a SR 'cuz u'll b JDM tyte yo" because most likely they haven't heard of a turboed KA motor. BUT again - there are pros/cons with each - just look around both forums and decide what you want, they are both great platform's with huge potential.

You can get a very basic set up if you search around forums and get used parts for under a grand. All the stuff in my car probably adds up to around $2k or so...some of it is garbage, others are very nice (i bought it from someone else that already installed it)

Advice is fine, but if this turns into yet *another* KA-T vs. SR thread it's gonna get the big ol' axe... just a warning!

dezi, welcome to NICO and one of the best resources available for the KA-T. It would help us out a lot if you did some searching on this site (a LOT has already been discussed, you will see), and if you kept your questions a little more specific.

Don't buy into the "thousands less" bit, however it can be less than your average SR20DET.

- SR20DET Clip- Fuel Pump- Downpipe

That's all you really need. Even buying from a reputable company you will spend about $3000 or so total on the parts.

Likewise your average intercooled KA-T will run you a ballpark figure of $1500 - 2500 depending in large part on what you buy.

There is a much cheaper SR route but I'll reserve that for another time because it honestly sounds like you would have a hard time with it.

I wouldn't buy too much into this statement either. In large part the difference in torque isn't seen until you exceed 300whp. Even then I have seen SR's produce ample amounts of midrange torque that is on par with KA-T numbers.

The KA does produce a solid amount of torque and is a good daily driving engine as a result. Especially if you stick with the stock CR.

All in all I think if you want to go with a KA-T you are best going with a made-up kit, or if you think the SR is better for you, then you definately need to look into a clip. No offense but you sound new to the game, your primary objective should be to educate yourself with the numbers and your own experience to make the correct choice.

Nismo_freek: Show me some SR charts in the 350hp range that are making over 300ftlbs. I have personally done 350hp and 3500ftlbs at 5500rpm, and a friend of mine has a Blacktop that is much more built than mine and made 368hp and 248 ftlbs. Im not trying to turn this into a debate, but we dont want you giving out more false information

$3000 average on parts, and then plus installation is another what....2k for everything running perfectly? (that is with taking the old KA out, and doing everything) - as I assume from the few posts, this person wouldn't be swapping it themselves. ....and then yes - it would be "thousands" less.

And as for the torque - hehe not making this a SR/KA argument so we'll leave it at that.

You can't assume one person can install and produce their own KA-T kit and suddenly lack the skills to bolt-in a motor.

Yeah my bad, I guess I added an extra there in there.

This recent time now with my new GT35R I did make 440hp and 420tq @ 17psi 5500rpm. Dont know where it went above 5500rpm because the ignition was having some damn issues.

Cool, where are you seeing full spool at with that turbo? I am interested in large part because I will be running a GT30/40R on an RB26DET setup I'm working on.

On my SR I won't be going any larger than a GT3071R as I don't want any more than 400whp or so.

All setups are different. We got some in 11's-low 14's Say that is the majority.Depend on what you do and your setup and your engine condition.I got 180k mile ka stock my friend has 130k ka with exhaust.I had my friend with me and 200lb system s extra 400lbs and I still leave him.Either my KA is a super KA or his is bad.....

Full spool is a matter of opinion, I start getting into boost around 3krpm and about 1.4bar at like 4krpm with the WG screaming, thats only how far we have tuned to right now. I did have a 33psi 'oops' on the dyno at around 4krpm too. I would venture to say whatever boost you want BY 4krpm if not sooner. Thats still gives me 3500-4k rpm of power to work with.

Also, this turbo isnt like the other big *** T4's ive had, boost starts to come on and then builds at an exponential rate, whereas the big ones I have had in the past are just nothing...nothing...nothing....WHAM 25psi...which is fun on the street if you can get it too hook, but damn its hard on clutches, and not fun to drive at the dragstrip because if you get out of boost...youre screwed.

Dezi, I'm personally giving you a mission.

I want you to read the threads on NICO for the next 2 weeks WITHOUT posting a single thread. Every single one of your posts have been new threads about things already discussed multiple times at length.

I usually dont say things like this, but you really need to learn to find info yourself. At this rate, you will not be able to install a SR or turbo KA until your granchildren graduate from high school.

There is tons of info on here. You need to go find it instead of asking questions and waiting for people to give you the info. I know the search function doesnt always give you the results you need. Thats why you should look around for a period of time. Then you be able to ask more direct and clear questions that members will be happy to assist with.

Sorry for the rant. Have a great weekend...
