To my knowledge there isn't one... why do you ask?

That's what I have read, but was just making sure. I found one of those so called "chips" and will give you a little more power, and for a few bucks I bought it. It is a little resistor type thing that pretty much bypasses that sensor. I figured if it will give me anymore power than I already have, why not, and the price was worth finding out.

Probably a 2 cent resistor that's supposed to fool the ECU into thinking it's cold outside and running the engine leaner... The ECU is smarter though - comparing the intake temp sensor readings with other parameters.

The older Qs don't use an air intake sensor anyway - but I'm familiar with it from my truck. Maybe it's more of an OBDII thing?

You talking about the MAF? Its the thing with the square top with the plastic three-wire connector coming out of it, on the clean side of the air filter.

Thanks for everyones input, not being a smart *** at all. I really am appreciative of everyones replies. It is just a resistor that tricks the ECU into thinking its colder, I've long ago realized that, but I figured it was worth a try. No, it isn't the MAF sensor, but that is what I first thought it would hook up to. Again, thanks for everyones opinion, and if anyone else has any advice on upgrades that aren't too costly, I'd like to hear them. I currently have a Jim Wolf Intake Cone Filter I bought for $10.00 bucks, but really that's it. Atleast they'll give me a complete refund for this so called performance chip. Thanks again.... Jay

The IAT is used on some Nissan models to double check the MAF.

It appears the [90-96] Q just relies on the MAF and coolant temp jumps and the HVAC [AC on and the HVAC outside air sensor] to separate winter and summer temperatures.

Once the coolant temp sensor sees higher than 196-200F at head output combining point it starts a 1 degree [steps] per 5F retard progression in ignition advance.

The only way the coolant could exceed 196F is a defective cooling system or hot Summer conditions. AC ON is indicative of Summer [double checked by defroster position and outside air temp sensor].

Additionally [besides ignition advance] the ecu enrichens the WOT mixture in summer to further cool the engine.

Not a good idea to trick the HVAC outside sensor as this will affect the automatic temperature control inside cabin.

20-30+ years ago it was common to trim the coolant temp sensor to gain a little power in Summer when engines were cast iron and didn't suffer damage if you overheated them................today with all aluminum engines it is risky to do things which raise the power level in hot summer conditions becuase the fuel quality is so low [temperature octane sensitivity].

Good, then you can take it off and go back to OEM without the loss in power it produces.

You really need to spend a few nights reading all of Q45tech's posts. He has documented what works, and what doesn't. You will learn alot about maximizing your car's performance.

What you need most is the ecu software reprogram...........that will provide enough extra power to be noticeable SAFELY.

Florida microscopic sand particles gets thru oem filters fast enough without help from any aftermarket quasi- filter.
