I just corrected one issue with my Q45. I have one other issue I am dealing with. My Q45 hesitates when I accelerate. It usually happens after the car gets warmed up. When it is cold it seems to accelerate fine. It acts almost like it could be an injector issue. I have put Lucas injector cleaner in it and use Premium unleaded fuel. The cleaner also helps dry the gas if there happened to be water in the fuel. What strikes me as odd is pattern I have noticed of it becoming worse when the car is heated up. The temp gauge goes no higher then the mid mark on the gauge. Any Ideas?

Bill

Thanks. That's my next step. Do the coils on this go bad very often?

Welcome to NICO Bill. Leave the coils alone for now. They're not an issue with the 90-95 Q's. You're probably due for plugs but hold off until you do a little more diagnosis.

If you think you have an injector issue might as well ohm test the injectors, cold and hot, to compare readings. It's about a 5 minute job. The connector cluster you're looking for is on the right side of the intake plenum. Ohm test the knock sensors while you're there and get back to us with the readings.

Is the check engine light (CEL) on? Does it light up after about 20 minutes of driving? If yes to either you'll need to pull the ECU codes also.

Where are you located? Someone who lives close with a Consult program can make the diagnosis much easier.

New owners/members should spend some time at http://q45.org/ reading every article. It may take a couple of days but you'll learn a lot about your Q, i.e. the short life of timing chain guides on the 90-93.

A lot of good articles and resources here on NICO also:

Thanks Goody for the welcome and the information. I am in East Tennessee. The local Nissan Dealer wants to charge me $60 the Diagnostics with the consult. Would it be much better to get the read with the consult? I assume there will be a whole lot more info with the consult. I am suspecting that it is really a spark plug issue. Good to know that their are relatively few coil issues.

The CEL is not on. The ABS light was on and the ABS actuator stayed running when the Ignition was off. I shifted the Relay around and it started to behave normally. I tried my local parts store to find another relay..they did not have it in their system. Any idea where the best place is to find a relay for the 92 Q45 ABS actuator?

Anybody in East TN have the consult Program?

Ohm test the KS and FI yourself and save $60. You can buy a voltmeter for $15 at Radio Shack if you don't already own one. The stealership Consult is going to read your ECU codes and shut off one injector at a time (power balance test) to isolate the problem. In the end their pat answer is likely going to be replace all 8 injectors which is probably a waste of money. Your engine could have other issues (plugs, corrosion on connectors, MAF, cracked hoses) but ohm testing KS and FI is the best place to start the diagnosis.

There are none in the 90-95 that I recall. From 96 on there's coil issues but few failed injectors. Go figure.

I don't think you'll find the ABS relay in a parts store. IIRC they're about $35 from the stealership. If you're looking to buy used I bet this seller still has his. Tell Joe that Goody sent you.
