Are they exactly the same motor? I am keeping the transmissions in the same trucks they are in but ...............The 1992 has a 5sp transmission and the 1993 has an auto transmission so:

Are the engine wiring harnesses the same? I don't want to go through the trouble of unhooking everything on two motors..

Is it any problem to pull the motor/transmission together and then pull-stab the transmission outside the engine bay and replace it together??

I am going for a simple swap and I hate pulling a transmission from under a vehicle so I'd rather just pull and and separate outside....

You will need to swap over the ecm but other than that everything should be an easy swap.

swap the ecm even though the auto 1993 is staying an auto? I was thinking that I would only have to change the ecm if I changed to a 5sp. Sorry if I confused you in my first post.

Also, my friends recommend that I should leave the auto transmission and just pull the motor. They say it would be easier than to pull the transmission with it and have to put it back. And I am to the point now of unkooking the harnesses while they are still in the engine bays....but is there any differences between the wiring harnesses: 1992 5sp & 1993 auto??

You'll probably have to swap the flywheel too.

If it's auto to auto then the ECM won't be needed to be swapped. Good to keep it around though in case of problems.

I've just about got everything unbolted except for atleast one bolt on top of the transmission (right behind the head). I can't seem to get it to break loose. I've sprayed lube on it overnight tonight. If it still won't come loose tomorrow I am going to try heating it with a torch.

After that, am I going to have to unbolt the torque converter? I am hoping it is ready to pull after I get that last one out.

dont forget the plug in the end if the crank. You will need to put it into your 5 speed engine, or just go buy one. You will see what I am talking about when you seperate the two. peace.

Well, after all my thinking I have decided to switch this automatic to a 5speed setup. I decided that so that I can swap my rb20 into this truck and keep from having to play musical motors.

So I have already pulled a clutch pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinder, and the line connected them from a junkyard 5sp. I will either cut my brake pedal down to size or I will have to go out another day and pull the brake pedal off that junker.

But, anyways, I guess this topic is over now that I have changed my mind. But for anyone who is searching for info:

I have heard that to switch a 5speed KA motor into an auto truck, you have to swap over the fly wheel, torque converter(???), the crank plug(???), etc(???).
