I need to replace both front door amplifiers. No one in my area fixes these. Does anyone know any good repair shops that I could send them into or does anyone know of any for sale. Thank you.

you can use http://www.carstereohelp.com to rebuild the amps. Theyre like $200 each... PASS

The 90-93 bose really sucks, personally what would I do is just ditch the bose for something aftermarket.. you're going to get a more reliable and better sounding audio system for the price.

Bose will rebuild them... I'm not sure how much they charge now. It used to be $75 each and they replaced the speaker and cleaned them up very nicely. Might be worth seaching the archived posts for more information.

Ok... just for fun (I know, I have a warped sense of "fun") I called the number I found for Bose. 1-800-231-2673, option 4.

Their current pricing structure is:Rebuild Amp Only: $75.00eaRebuild Entire Assembly (Replace speaker too): $140eaAnd if you have all four assemblies done, the 4th one is free. So $420 for all four new speakers and amps.

Also keep in mind that your rears were covered in a recall, so it would be worth checking with the dealership to see if that was performed. I believe it was all 1991 and 1992 Q45s that had the recall. The VIN Range for the 1992 models included is JNKNG01**NM200001 - 219999. If by some chance that recall wasn't done on your car yet you can get those amps replaced at no charge.

Good luck!

i've actually been researching options for this recently.

as Heath said, the quick, surefire way is to have BOSE do it for you. there is a caveat: they will replace the amplifier boards with a generic front or generic rear. the original equalisation for the G50 is not something that they deal with anymore.

the original nichicon 47uF caps seem to be the weak link, followed by the FETs.

i am planning to do a parts replacement on mine and will let y'all know.

while there are certainly better speakers than the bose, in my experience, new bose amps on old speakers will sound much improved vs. what you have now.

Seems that mine were done. But they rears are shot anyway. Terrible "farting" rattle at low frequencies. I have the stereo up to 30, but the lows down -10. If I get some extra time/cash, I'll redo the speakers. Probably front and back.

Really! Did Bose tell you this directly? The person I talked to didn't mention that... big difference between what they did just a few years ago.

Bose main purpose in life was to measure each vehicles internal sound response and create individual equalizers to match hardness and softness of leather vs cloth, interior volume etc so that the driver received a balanced signal for Classical Music...............R&R or others need not apply.

Actually there is a variable loudness contour circuit that also changes equalization with loudness.

Even though the amplifiers are interchangeable you can measure or hear a difference if you use fronts in rear or the converse. Or those from Corvette, Caddy or others would be even worse.

Jay, while you're in there, you should really try to find the EQ out circuit, so it could be routed to beefier amps.

That would be pretty cool, if we could get the equalized output of the amps and just send that signal to an amp...

Wes, it should be quite easy to take 'line level' equalised output before the FETs and do what you want with it.

i'll need to reserch a bit more, and actually build a few of these instead of just talkin'.

yep. i had to keep pressing about wanting the original eq. then they finally fessed up to generic.***

Hello Jay,

I apologize for the confusion. In answer to your question, the $75.00 is for the amplifier invidually and this is a new amplifier it is not rebuilt. Also, the amplifier for the front are common and the amplifier for the rear is common.Thank you for contacting Bose Corporation. Patty Bolack Consumer Relations Division
