I have just bought my first Nissan Infiniti. A 1992 Q45 V8. The person I bought it off of I guess tried to do some work on the coil packs assuming that they had a problem. The covers are off of them atm. I am unemployed/laid off and had to work off the cost of the car (landlord helped) working for him. That being said is to point out money isn't exactly flowing atm. I love the look of this car though and really want to try and get it running again. I plan on buying books on the car and continue researching it on the web so any sites and or book recommendations would be appreciated. Back to my original question, any advice/help on coil packs on this car is desperately needed. I have found a salvage yard with a 90, 91, and 93 Q45 could I take parts off of these instead of buying new? I am also a mechanical newbie to let you know at what level you will be talking too. There are other issues but will put in separate posts in case they need to fall under different categories.

90-93 Q parts will work on your car, including those coils so definitely go parts scavenging. There is a link on here to the Factory Service Manual for your Q. It's a must have and read, if you intend on doing working yourself on your car. I'm sure someone who knows exactly where it is will chime in and post up a link for you soon.

Coil packs seldom fail on VH45DE. There is plenty of free and valuable reading here if you want to dig. Study the later FSM, then read all posts by Q45tech.

You need to read the timing chain guide article in the stickies also.

Don't wan to but your bubble, but no money is not a good thing with an old imported luxury V8. You will need at least $5K - $6K to restore and $3K per annum thereafter to maintain, minimum. if your immediate future employment prospects are not bright, you might want to pause and rethink.
