I got a car with a lot of problems but heres the puzzler.the guy I bought it fron was driving on the freeway and suddenly car stopped. the only thing he could do was put it on 2 and drive home. When on "D" the car will not move andrev like it is on "N". I checked the car and figured that the car will not move beyond first and the transmission diagnostics show no problem with the electricals. the transmission oil looked dirty. When I went under the car, and there was oil around the transmission pan ( it was wet but not dripping ).One guy told me it could be the harness or the transmission is out. Because the problem showed so suddenly, I doubt that the transmission is blown. However I could be wrong. heres what the car will do. It will go reverse, and on "2", it will move but on first gear. on "1" it does what it has to do.anyone???thanx

hehe, yeah seeing as it's an automatic the syncro's are totally gone!

sorry to be the barer of bad news but it sounds as if the trans is gonna need a rebuild, sounds like one of the bands gave way the other band will likely not be too far behind, now is a good time to consider a 5 speed swap, replacing a clutch is a lot easier than rebuilding an auto transmission

Actually, I am getting a transmission with warranty from a buddy for a couple hundred. As for the manual, I would love to swap it to manual, but the wifes got tobe able to drivr it. Thanx for the suggestion though.I am going to keep the transmission from the car and try to rebuild it myself. A little experiment.

Might just get another 300zx with manual for me.Instead of having to hear her complain all the time.
