Hey ladies and gents,
I recently got a good deal on a 1992 300zx. I have been investigating why it doesnt start. I threw a new battery in and got it running on starter fluid. I have a couple questions about the fuel system itself. (BTW Ive read the stickies, and have tried searching)
1. The car has no fuel pressure before or after the filter. I found the fuel pump relay, which is under the drivers side kick panel (right?)
2. When I turn the key, I dont hear the fuel pump, but i hear a clicking noise coming from what looks like some kind of brake thing. It got a little warm, so I dont know if this is fuel related, or what this thing even is? It looks expensive though. It is a 2+0, so its under the opposite panel that the headlight adjustment tools are. Could this relate to my problem?
3. Since the N/A has a fuel pump controller, and i know that this pump has two speeds, what is the best way to test and see if the pump is getting power? I imagine a multimeter or possibly test light hooked up to the leads would work, but I dont know which are which
4. If I do have to change the pump, is there a way the TT pump will work with the NA computer for now? I have plans for bigger power down the road, and may not be using fuel pump controller at all
5. Are there any fuel pump fuses/relays under the hood? I read that there were, but I didnt see any.
6. Thanks for any help, I just want to be able to try a few different things next time I have a chance to work on it
7. Here is a pic of the car as it has sat for the last 4 years. I delivered to this house a few times and it killed me to see it sitting. I inquired about it, and she was willing to sell it for pretty darn cheap :woot:

Yep that's the fuel pump relay

This is the fuel pump control module, its not cheap, and it sounds like yours is bad

Multimeter would be fine but you can usually hear it come on, btw the TT has a controller too
4. If I do have to change the pump, is there a way the TT pump will work with the NA computer for now? I have plans for bigger power down the road, and may not be using fuel pump controller at all
TT pump will work with the NA controller, my swapped Z has NA controller with Walbro pump and TT ECU (works just fine)

There is an EFI relay under the hood IIRC

Hey, thanks for the reply.

So it sounds like I probably need a new fuel pump control module, and probably a new pump. Just to be sure, I ran over to the garage quick and snapped this picture. Sorry, it was an awkward picture

This is the part that was ticking when i turned the key to "run". It also got a little warm, so I dont know why. Any help is appreciated
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is under the cover behind the passenger seat

Sorry, should've specified, yeah the Fuel Pump Control Module is behind the Drivers seat. Check out the manual Electrical system section page 113 IIRC
