Will these wire colors apply to a 1993 240sx se convertable (no rear deck, rear speakers in side panel)? Getting ready to start my head unit and speaker changeout after Christmas. Was sold 4x6 speakers all around, hope that's right...

Hmmm, did you purchase the nissan harness adapter? This plugs into the 2 plugs from the car's chassis and is marked w/ all the labels (i.e. power, stereo left +, illumination, etc), then you use that to connect to the stereo head unit.

In any case, the easiest way to do this is to use a multimeter (or a test light, but use that at your own risk ). Just probe to make sure the power on and constant 12v is powered correctly. Then you should be able to get your head unit to come on at the least. Also, check the fuse on the unit if that doesn't work.

The illumination has to do w/ either when you turn the headlights on or just the backlight of the display.

The dimmer will get brighter/darker along w/ the rest of the lights on the cluster and climate control in your car by your car's dimmer switch.

Those can definitely be hooked up, I've done that on my car.

Do you have the manual for your headunit? or can you d/l a manual? That usually contains a diagram for the stereo side w/ the colors. Then you match up w/ the chassis side and you'll be set.

and GET A MULTIMETER!!!! - you'll need that for many things, so it pays for itself rather quickly.

Also, I just noticed you posted this in technical, I know you'll get some real expert advice if this is linked to or posted in the Audio section.

Hope that helps a lil.

Could be the factory amps, get rid of those and rewire. My 95 s14 wasn't getting power to my speakers. Did the rewire, got rid of the factory amps, problem solved.

Im stilling haveing issues. I dont see a black wire, I see a black one with a red stripe. Is this my ground? Now heres where are realy starting to confuse me. When I take the face off the headunit, theres a red blinking light on it. it lit and blinking when the key is out of the ingison but the head unit wont come on. Do you think my H/U is messed up? or am I still wireing this thing wrong?

Ground -> chassis. It doesn't connect to wire.

I put it on the metal unpainted bracket w/ a screw to the chassis.

If you are not grounding it properly, then you will have issues w/ power on. Maybe that's your problem.
