hey everyone i just bought a '92 240sx...good ...now heres the bad part....theres some mechanical and electrical problems..i dont know much about the nissan engines but i can work on cars with direction...any help at all is welcome

mechanical:1)BIGGEST PROBLEM!!!!....a clicking sound from the engine block area...it sounds like metal on metal...i''ve checked different articles and it seems that it could be just the timing changed hitting its guide up to broken valve guides or a new head or a new engine...any suggestions or would it be better to replace the stock engine with another nissan engine that i see is so popular

2)when i start the car and rev the engine blue smoke pours out and when i lay off the gas it smokes even more...i can smell the oil and i know the blue smoke is from burning oil,i just dont know what would cause it.

3)the exhuast system is pretty bad but still working, should i buy a replacement OEM or just spend a few dollars and buy a performance system as this is what i eventually intend for the car

electrical:1)the blower motor doesnt work.I was told the a/c and heat work when i bought the car but when i got the car the blower doesn't do anything.

2)the drivers side seatbelt won't move...the passenger side works fine, but the drivers side doesn't budge

3)the radio isn't stock but theres no power to it at all...i cant get it out to see if its wired up either...it seems like the people who had it before me may have just wedged it in.

thanks, matt

that rattle is your timing chain guides hitting your timing chain.

Mechanical:

1) Timing chain guides, as previously suggested

2) Burning oil is pretty bad. Maybe you'll luck out and it will just be your PCV valves going, and allowing excess crankcase blowby into the intake tract, where it is burned. Check your PCV system, and also check your engine compression to see if you are leaking crankcase oil into the combustion chamber that way.

3) This is your preference really, but I'd go with an aftermaket exhaust. 3" is the way to go, even on an N/A KA.

Electrical1 & 3) Cant help you here, sry

2) All s13 auto seatbelts have lifetime warranty. Bring it back to any dealer and it will be serviced free of charge.

1)timing chain/guided OR lifters.. are you sure engine has enough oil in it?...

2)piston rings, and or valve seals.. (cause for a rebuild right there.. might as well do a complete rebuild and prep it to be turboed)

3) personally.. after driving with an exhaust for a year.. go OEM.. much less attention from cops...

Electrical

1) junkyards are your best friends.. prepare to spend at least a day ripping apart your dashboard (might as well pull she stereo while youre at it..)2)pull off the plastic covers off of it.. odds are its full of greasy plastic grime thats not letting it move... tear it all apart and wipe/clean it (1 hour of work) if it ddoesnt help.. get a new belt motor..3) pull out the plastic cover (the one that holds the shift boot.. and see if you can pull out the stereo now 3)

valve seals or worse, piston ringsCheck compression look for pressure differences rather than specific numbers 15% or less between cylinder is okAs for the ratling, could be low oil, low oil pressure or the guides (not needed anyway) easy fix.Or valve lash adjustment

For the electrical part...hummCheck fuses and powr circuits. See if the fan operates in any speed. Check if the mix door moves (you can hear it)A FSM will help you here a lot!!As for the radio.... scrap it and redo wiring. For the exhaust, go custom but stock looking, depends of course on what are you plans for you car.Remember that used car is another person problem that you are buying!! Sometimes is a "good" problem, sometimes isnt.

ok, for the knocking, definitely your guides, but these are important, but only if they break off. can seriously thrash your sh*t. there is an excellent article floating around, dont have the link at the moment tho for the oil, if its the valves, it will start to lessen as you drive, but if you leave your car idling for a little bit, 10 minutes, maybe less, then get in it...major plumes of blue smoke. easiest way to see it is to get in and go in reverse, not forwards, if its noticeably worse, this is the begining of needing a valve job..or a head job (dont look at me, but i got a younger sister tho i pimp out sometimes...j/k) to check your ring seals, do a leak down test, im not gonna explain how, find it in any haynes or chiltons. if its your pcv valve, i believe u tend to have oil majically appear in you air filter, its been a while tho, that may only be from your aic doohicky (the square black plastic box with a hose that goes to your filter box

for the radio, besides the fuses, make sure the antenna is plugged in. no antenna, radio no turn on. remember you need an adapter for nissan's rediculous dual antenna setup. get it at pep boys, like $5-10 bux. also, make sure the amp wire (the light blue one that ist for the power antenna) that is comin from the radio, is attached to a power source. for most radios, u can actually splice it in with the power antenna wire. it can get trickier, but repost if u need that info.

for exhaust, just replace what you need with oem, but get a free flow, or high flow cat and go to midas to weld it in, the will do it for under $100 usually, and one of the few places that will install 3rd party aftermarket parts. P.S. if u pay cash, with no receipt, it has a tendency to be cheaper there

and you already heard the answer for the seatbelts, and cant help u with the ac, check the fuses, and engine compartment relays

NOW SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH INFO ON REPLACING MY HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE!!!!!

3'' exhaust is annoying on an NA... I haaad to put my 3 inch on from my SR because I couldn't afford a new cat at the time (between jobs and cat was clogged so i couldn't move the car) If you could, just find out why your exhaust sucks and just fix it... you'll be happy with stock as long as you're not planning to upgrade it any time soon.
