So I am rebuilding my engine right now. I have already put the head back on and need to do the timing. The problem is that the car already had its timing chain replaced before I took it apart and its replaced with an aftermarket timing chain kit and both the timing chains have only one mark. I looked on some of the forums that were up, but non of them were really clear.
To do the bottom chain I just put the engine in the TDC. I did not know how to align the timing chain with the sprocket in the middle. I just kind of did it so that it was taught.
1. Is it important to have the middle sprocket in a specific orientation?
2. What orientation do I need to put the cams back in relative to the head so that the timing would be correct?
3. How do I align the cam shaft sprockets correctly to the cam shafts?
4. How do I align the timing chain that has only one mark to both of the cam sprockets and the middle sprocket?
I looked at the Instructions for the Jim Wolf installation and got even more confused because when I first opened my engine up the cams and cam sprockets were not aligned up the way it said to do it. The only thing I could think of is that who ever replaced the timing chain before I got the car aligned it some different way.
