1992 240SX Nissan (standard transmission) ignition problem

I have replaced: -battery cables and ensured proper ground -starter motor (had it tested before installation) -the ignition switch assembly (got a new key and everything) -starter/ignition relay switch and tested the battery, yet the the engine still turns only about 20% of the time when I try to start the car. Aside from replacing the clutch relays, (meaning spending more money) does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks, Gibrio

I see you haven't tested the alternator. I would check the output of the alternator while the car is running. It should be somewhere around 14v while running. If it's not, you've got a bad alternator.

I have not tested the alternator because the battery not only maintained a charge but, when tested it was not discharged. Would the output affect starting the car eventhought the battery is charged? Regardless, I will test the voltage and appreciate the input dude. Thanks,Gino

look up starter in tutorial link in my signature.

ignition relay doesnt affect engine turning over. interlock relay(by battery) does but replacing parts is waste of money.

Here is something free to look into (without much effort also).

My fiance's oldsmobile has had a problem with starting for almost a year now. The symptom: engine would not turn over OR turnover was delayed a few seconds after key turn.

The problem: the wire plug at the ignition switch (the electrical part BEHIND THE IGNITION KEY LOCK) has a loose wire. I took off the steering column "collar" (the plastic shroud) and jiggled the wire harness while turning the key....started right up. Since then I have left the collar off because I need to give it the occassional little jiggle..
