1992 240sx: Dowel - Block to head...how many are there?

According to this, there are only two of these, but there are cutouts on the intake side as well that they fit into also (in the head, but the cutouts don't extend down into the block like on the exhaust side. The four cutouts in the head block are the same size as the sleeves, and so are the two on the intake side of the cylinder block). I didn't realize they were there until I got my head back from the machinist...there was one still in the head when I got it back and I had found one on the floor of my garage. Do I only need to put these on the exhaust side? The description (Dowel - head to block) leads me to think I should expand them and push halfway into the cylinder block so the other half fits up into the head block. What is the purpose of these?Thanks,TravisD

I'm pretty sure when I rebuilt my engine there were only two of them, and they were both on the exhaust side.

Cool, thanks for the input. If there were more they could be anywhere between here and the machinists and I'd never know. I don't trust diagrams much except to jog my memory...with so many pieces there is plenty of room for errors. So, there are just what, like expansion spaces on each corner(ish), or what's the deal with that anyways.
