u need to first take off the big plastic piece that goes around ur radio, shifter, and a/c. Just pull it comes right off.

There is either 2/4 screws holding the head unit, loosen those 4 and it coems out.

Get an adapter from ebstbuy for your car and connect it. Then connect the connector to the headunit.

End....

ok, here's the famous link to install dr.

you'll need acrobat reader to see this

may need the wiring diagrams contained in the link if the previous owner had done a hack job/ or radio was previously stolen & the harness was cut...

may also need a dremel to "trim the plastic face of the center console if the cd unit is a bit larger than normal...

always disconnect battery to prevent blowing fuses or worse, the dimmer switch or tcu box in the driver side kick panel.

you usually don't connect the illumination wire since aftermarket units run under their own illumination circuit.

I also had to run a seperate ground wire to the chassis on my aftermarket unit...

needed to pick up a radio antennae adapter from radio shack, circuit city, etc.

that's all i can recall GL! BOOYAH!

^ exactly what they said.

i hooked up the illumination wire because my headunit has an option for it to dim automatically when i turn on my headlights.

aesthetically speaking, I think headunits look better when they are IN the black plastic piece that goes around the radio, rather than the headunit mounted ON it.

To describe this another way, when I was installing my headunit, I saw two ways of installing (and to give a better picture, let's ignore that there are wires):

1 - Put the black plastic piece and then slide the radio in, so that its face area is mounted ontop of the plastic piece.

2 - Put the radio in first, and then plastic piece on top, so that the edges of the face area reside behind the plastic piece.

Option 2 looks way better IMO. looks more like factory. Option 1 leaves you with this bulky thing sticking out.

who does option 1?(edit: oh, i forgot this was in systems of earlier vintages... i.e. i've done that crap on an 88-89 dodge models...)

I always do option 2 when installing aftermarket units; never did I see option 1 before... if i see that @ an installation shop, i'd ask for my $ back... that's just 1/2 asssssssssssed

yup, it's weird, but looking @ FSM diagrams (u can d/l these for free)

one goes to the obvious radio antenna

the other goes t o a wire that's on my hatch; a window antenna!

i 1st thought it was all rear window defogger wires on the window back there, but if u take a closer look, the 1st 2-3 rows up top is on a separate circuit...

the adaptor usually is just that= Y-type that combines the 2 into a standard male connection to your aftermarket radio...

Small addendum:

It says for stickshifts: "The gear shift knob screws onto the shifter arm. Unscrew the know(sp?=knob) and the leather shaft cover will slide off the shaft arm and allow the dash panel to be removed.

On mine the shift knob is on real tight and is a pain to remove. I found it easier to carefully unsnap the dash panel with the booth still attached. The boot is plenty flexible for this. Then if you look on the underside of the panel, the boot is attached to the panel with 4 simple phillips screws. Remove those and the shift boot comes off the panel with knob still on. Either way.

Plus the clippies like to break, and they will get loose making it hard to reattach. There are small screws in the back of the clips. Just tighten those with the clippies in the proper orientation.
