Looking for information on 1992 240SX Alternator belt replacement. I will first off like to say, I am posting this for a friend that looked me up for help, but he sadly does not have a car manual I can work from. My level of experience is Honda/Acura from as small as an oil change to an engine swap to give some background information on what I may or may not be able to do.

I have registered and posted here looking for some assistance since I work better from straightforward information since I have had a hard time locating information to download a pdf for this 240sx. My friend called me over after purchasing a replacement alternator for his car, after getting under the car, I made him aware that he probably only needed a belt, as there was no longer an alternator belt on this car. Off to Autozone we went to purchase a replacement alternator belt for his car, for me to find that there was another belt in front of this one so I wouldn't be able to just remove the two bolts from the alternator to remove the tension and install another belt. So now, here I set, trying to look up diagrams and find information on the easiest methods to remove the very frontmost belt so that I can get on the alternator belt which is part of the second set of pulleys (this is counting from front near radiator, 1, 2, and 3 sets of pulleys counting back) I apologize if I haven't been thorough enough, I don't have the car right in front of me, nor internet access at his home. I appreciate any help someone can provide, as well as a a link to some downloadable manual for this 1992 240sx, I just want to help him get his car back up and running. Thanks.

I am trying to visualize the belt set up on the 240, I belive you need to remove the P/S belt to put this on. the adjuster for the belt on the P/S is just below it, you need to loosed the 12mm bolt that secures the tensioner from the front just below the pulley then through the pully on the top there is a 14mm you need to loosen, then there is a 12mm for the tensioner coming from the side of the lower braket, loosen that and the belt should slip right off. then reinstall in the reverse order.

I appreciate the help, I actually downloaded that pdf last night before this post, was just hoping for a little more extensive, seemed a little thinner on the information then the normal Helms I have used. But after... and yes I know this is a long time, after 4 hours, I got the dang then removed/reinstalled with everything up and running. I am sure his battery is dead though, we charged it only to find the cells inside of it were bone dry but his brother and I took it for a nice spirited run and lets say he wants to steal what his younger brother calls a POS. So yes, I took four hours and I would have to say, going from Honda to Nissan I found it a little different mainly the amount of space I had to work with, it was real cramped so getting at things with just basic type tools wasn't the greatest time consumer. I would say if I were able to just make things disappear and reappear, I could have done it in all of 15 minutes but the damn fan posed most of my movement problems as well as two rubber hoses. It also helped once I understood the adjuster & loosener more. I was loosening both of them, and was too stupid to understand that the loosen needed to be undone and then to bring the adjuster in to remove all the tension off the belts. Also, NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER remove the loosener bolt completely from the entire housing. With the limited movement and room to work with, it's extremely hard to get everything lined back up again by yourself. Yes, my friend never called it's HIS dang car so I went over there and worked on it cause I cancelled appointments to help him out so I wasn't going to waste the day. Anyway, I appreciate, everyone's help, the archived posts and information I found within this site. So from a Honda guy, thanks for everything!!
