I have a 1992 240 SX coupe 5 speed which I have owned and driven for close to the last 20 years. It has now been sitting for 6 + months with cracked frame/ rusted frame and other mechanical issues. Not sure if repairing the frame is an option. Called two shops who did not believe it would be worth doing the work or would not due this type of frame repair. (Milwaukee area) Does anyone have a general idea of what this type of frame repair would cost if possible? I am sure I would be spending more than the car is worth to get it repaired? but I have had the car since I was 21 years old.

I have looked for a 1992 240 sx coupe with a manual transmission for sale online and I have not been able to locate one, I am seeing mainly hatchbacks or automatics in that model year, Is this car hard to find or for some reason rare?

The 1992 coupe isn't very rare in terms of 240sx. If it were me I would part out the good parts of the car i.e. interior, exterior, ka, etc. Hopefully you can help someone else finish their project. If you really like coupes im sure you can find one in your area for a reasonable price in good shape. Hope this helps. 240's have a rust issue on their frame rails all the time. Not worth fixing unless the car means that much to you.

it really depends on how bad the rust is. my buddy had 93 with rust so bad that it rusted through the rails all the way up into the body of the car to the point where it was unfixable. if its not that bad, xcessive sells rail replacements where you can cut out the front part of the rail and weld this new piece in.

also, try and contact Vinny at Destruction Warehouse. theyre over in Bristol, WI. from what ive heard, he does alot of fab and repair work like this on s chassis.

OP, if the car does mean that much to you, I suggest you learn to weld, and fix it.

You're twice my age, so I figure you can be as futilely attached to your POS as I am to mine. If it's made of metal, it can be fixed, one way or another.

But yeah, hatches are more common in general, I think. I have a '92 hatch, for instance.

Coupes are a little harder to find. Expand your search to 91-93, all are the same.

Repairing the frame IS an option.

Check out Courtesy Nissan, you can get most of the front end.

Drill out the spot welds

And plug weld the new panels back.

Either learn to weld depending on how bad the rust is like said above or look for an 89-93 coupe with a nice body and frame and a blown engine/auto trans or some other non body issues and swap everything over from your old car. If it's an 89 or 90 you just have to swap the front bumper. There are still unmodified nice condition cars out there for good prices if you look long enough. My two hatches that I've owned were originally owned by older people and in relatively good shape for damn good prices. Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses, I do have someone who wants to buy as a parts car. What is a fair price? Frame is rusted out and doesn't run.

Unbelieveable the amount of interest in the car even sitting in the auto repair lot, had 3 calls to buy it. One thing about driving it around all these years normally would be at least a couple offers to buy it every year.

I don't have a garage otherwise I would consider learning how to weld ;)

Get a welder and an extension cord.

Harborfreight sells an assortment of welders for under 200 bucks, and you don't have to feel bad when you break it. They'll fit in the trunk of said 240 for storage.

Never look at the arc or weld without your eyes covered - youtube can teach you the rest.

Shame to see another one bite the dust, and end up as parts on a drift car, and ultimately, all crushed.

^ This. I can empathize with whoever believes in saving this 240sx. Better to have it restored, than sent to a graveyard in the future. Just be patient and a solution will come your way, no need to throw the car away.
