1991 Sentra stuck in park

I have a 1991 Sentra that is stuck in park. I never had any problems with it before tonight but i pulled in to park and when i put my foot on the brake petal i heard a buzzing sound that appeared to come from under the steering wheel/dash board area. When i went to start the car back up i put my foot on the brake petal and the buzzing started again before i ever attempted to put the car into gear. When i did try to put the car into gear the shifter wouldn't shift out of park. We eventually got it out of park and brought it home but now it won't shift out of park again and that same buzzing noise happens every time you put your foot on the brake. What could this be? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check under your dashboard and look on the brake pedal, there is a switch you'll see that touches the brake pedal for the brake lights. This also controls the little unlock thing in your auto shifter. Check for damage/adjustment. Do your brake lights still work?
