my 91 q45 with rebuilt transmission has recently started to shudder/shake in drive when locking up in overdrive (i think that is when it occurs). Anyway when you let off the throttle the shake goes away of course. if you give more throttle after letting off there is no shudder or shake. also the 2nd to third shift at light throttle is slow or lagging. at more or hard throttle shifts quick and smoothly (2-3). i was told by original shop that rebuit trans 2 1/2 years ago that the torque converter is going bad and need $850 to replace. does this seem correct. this after they claimed to have replaced when the transmission was rebuilt. needless to say i will not go back to them as i feel the original job was not properly performed. i feel like it is a pressure problem. any ideas?

Aftermarket transmission rebuilds have not been particularly successful on the Q45. It might be worth your while to drop the pan and change the filter to see if there's a fluid starvation issue...

One must equate what one gets from an $1850 [wholesale price] Jatco Nissan Tennessee Factory AT rebuild with what Joe's [chain stores and independents] Lawnmower and Transmission service charges to accomplish.

As a shop in business for 15 years we always purchase factory remans from dealer and do the swap...............even though it cost customers more [$3500].

Too many less than stellor rebuilders around US.

Most rebuilders only give a 12 month warranty unless you buy extra.

How can you complain after 2.5 years?

Try 1/2 a bottle of Lubeguard Red [NAPA] before doing anything else!

In 20 years I'm on tranny #3 and it will be replaced in another 1-2 years, just a budgeted item [$400 per year] that has been saved for since the last replacement in late 2003.
