I have been looking at a 1991 Infiniti Q45 and he says that it needs a power steering pump. The car has no power steering at all. I didnt get to check too much out under the hood or w.e. I was wondering what if any common problems these cars have within the power steering and how much would I be looking at to fix. It has 147k on it and has been in the family since the car was bought brand new. The leather looks as tho it has never been sat on it is that clean. the exterior is decent. couple rust spots in the quarters as I live in the midwest. but for 1200 I think I could work with it and I need a car as my J30 took a crap on me recently and would like to stay in the nissan/infiniti family.

#1 problem is high pressure power steering hose leaks.
Each hose costs > $100 if you replace it yourself.
Then rack leaks.

Hard to find a '91 with nice seats...

Is the Q45 a base model with normal suspension?

If yes, and the pump has gone out or it leaks and needs a new seal, there is an aftermarket Fenco pump sold at Advance Auto for $155.99 + core charge $30.00.

If you catch Advance when there is a sale - like now.. You can buy one online for $155.99 then also get the $30 core credit when you return your old pump and get a coupon for $50 towards a future purchase. The pump has a warranty for as long as you own it..

Power steering pumps are a relatively simple part -- so there are other things that could be wrong.. But if that is all that is that wrong, this is not an expense item to fix..

I might have a better option for you in the world of parts. I use these people for most parts IF they have them for my 94. Best deals i have found aside from a junk yard.
