Why would you relocate it?

To make it easier for me to get to from the top. My jack doesn't get high enough for me to get under comfortable enough for me. I don't want to make frequent oil changes this hard.(Kind of makes me think about a good lift) It looks like some put their battery in their trunk and put it in the old battery location.

Well, after replacing an engine in my 94' recently with a JDM engine I can tell you the stock location is terrible. The least they could have done was make the shield above the power steering pump longer towards the back so that the oil doesnt dump directly on the pump and the sensor on the powersteering line; I had to clean at least 3-4mm thick of oil dirt/oil off the pump from 183k miles. Plus it really is a more of a pain than it has to be to get to from the top with the stock airbox. Since I got an apexi cone filter this isnt a problem, but it is still a mess all over the clean engine since I have replaced it twice so far.

I have been thinking about this for a long time, just never had the extra cash to do it. It is kind of expensive if you go with a kit, so would have to look into finding the block, hose, and fittings to use a different filter maybe. The filter is used in 240sx(S13) and 300zx(Z31 and Z32) so finding things shouldnt be a problem, just how much you want to spend and how far you need to move it.

Remove the fuel vapor canister and you can access it from the top without a lift... Relocation... Seriously?

The evap canister is plastic. Plastic gets brittle over time. So I would be hesitant to remove it for a oil change. Either find a trustworthy Auto Tech or remove the canister completely from the system.

All of the plastic is pretty brittle in this 1991. In my 1996 the plastic parts are still in pretty good condition. However I will check and try the evap canister. The brittle plastic does worry me long term. I keep breaking off pieces like on the air box.

I am trying to think of the bigger picture and have decided to change the sound system. That is also why I was thinking of relocating the battery to the trunk as well.

I wrap mine in a plastic bag before removal as it minimize the oil dripping on other components. Also, I keep a can of brake parts cleaner handy to clean up any oil that might spill. The Puralator PureOne has a textured outer finish that makes the filter easy to group and control in a tight place. You can see a PureOne dissected in the following video.
