Maybe they paid him to take it.qship96 wrote:dumb question, but why would you buy a car in this condition without a professional assesment of the parts and costs needed to fix?
Transmission control unit. The TCU controls the first gear start, So you will need another one of those.jkastellic wrote:What is a tcu? will a ECU from your car work?? I was going to replace all the modules and relays and go from there, does anyone have what I need?? BTW, the car is in good condition with only 70k it has a new 93 transmission with the 1st, gear start also new radiator, tires, ect,

The TCU controls the shift... period. Some are first gear start (93+) and some are 2nd (90-92). If TCU or ECU was touched by water, as in any car, changing them is a given.
If the engine runs the ECU is probably not bad. Did not mention if the trans shifts properly or not.DrewQ45 wrote:You need Ecu and Tcu. I have both, very reasonable. Let me know.
Not speculation here.... in flood damaged cars, the engine and transmission computers are always changed FIRST. It's a given and from the description, I'd say water infiltration took place into the units. If weird problems aren't showing now, oxidation within these parts will eventually cause gremlins or big trouble. At the very least, I'd take them apart and spray WD-40 or some other type of moisture fighting, rust inhibiting spray, but then again, you have to think about the components such as the Caps, inductors etcs - the damage is probably already done. Time will tell and the question will always be there.elwesso wrote:

We certainly do not know enough about the problem currently to start throwing parts that may not make any difference.
