1991 Q45 Cranking but Won't Start After Jump Start

Q45 was starting and running great until wife left interior lights on and killed battery. Jump started, then after shut down car would crank but not fire. WHAT HAPPEND?Done so far-Checked all fuses Ran Mode 2 self diagnostic and got 34, 35 and 45Changed Fuel FilterFuel in oil when dipstick pulled

Did a lot of searching and couldn't find a similar failure to start episode.Bought a online Q45 Service Manual but still kind of lost on this one.

Please somebody tell me this is an easy fix and that I am just missing something electrical that happend when car was jumped.

So you started it cold, shut it off, and it wouldn't restart? There is fuel in your crankcase?

You need to search better and read more. What you did was basically wash all the oil off the cylinder walls on the second cold restart so there was no compression. You will now have to change your oil and filter.

TSB are at http://www.nissan-techinfo/infiniti/ for a one day subscription of $20

Search, read. learn and save lots of money and aggravation.

How long did you run it after the successful jump start?

MAXNIXFirst of all thank you for responding!

Secondly, what a piece of crap this car must be if I can't start it up, run it for 5 minutes then shut it off. What the hell! I can do it with my explorer, Lexus GS400, BMW, whats so damn special about this car that you can't start it and shut it off.

Sorry about the mini rant but dude thats nutz!

Time is not the key, but coolant temp is as the ecu chokes the engine by simultaneous injection [flooding cylinders with fuel] if you don't allow a proper warm up.

Fully described in owners manual and FSM.Something dealers explained to every new Q buyer, or at least when it was towed in flooded.

Buying used without research [into quirks] often leaves OPERATORS flooded.

We still get a few flat beds in when owners flood Q usually the 3rd or 4th owners.

So few read the FSM\OM about HOW to shut off injectors in a second start----------------------floor accelerator and hold then turn the key to start and don't lift throttle until the engine revs up!

The main point is, start normally, but let it run up to operating temperature before operating or shutting off.

If what you posted is correct than this is the only car I ever heard of that requires special procedures if only run for a short period. It is definitely a design flaw and they should have had a recall to fix it. Unacceptable on such a high priced car.

I've certainly started mine and turned it off before it warmed up - no problem.

It's not common, but you're not the first to have flooding troubles after a quick start and shutdown - usually only a problem when switching cars in the driveway - 30 seconds - that sort of thing.

Let us know if that was it.

It's all about how the injectors are progeammed to work on a cold start.

The Lexus V8 of the same 90-95 era used a 9th fuel injector to flood the plenum during cranking............. has its own set of troubles with today funky gasoline.
