Recharged My Ac system in the 91 Q45 put in 134a as I was told by my pop that it was services and had a leak when drove it before giving it to me.
There was nothing in the system but faint air when I pressed the high and low pressure pin down quickly to check.
I was happy to hear a little air meaning the system may still be workable. If it was open to the air would have to replace the compressor, dire, and condenser so I took a chance and tried to fill it.
I have an old Ac kit but forgot I had given it to my cousin, so off to the auto store to get one of those 10 dollar kit made out of plastic.
I used a basic leak stop and oil that came with the 134a putting in the system before the 134a. This was to protect the system when the compressor kicked in. The first gauge locked up and you had to apply pressure on the quick release coupler. The compressor kicked in after only adding one can of stop leak and 134a. The temp was 74 outside but the air blowing out was vent was 60.
Yes, I know normally it takes two cans and then topping it off with one more to get between 33 and 44 pressure range.
I was about to remove the quick release coupler froze and vented into the air. Here, I am caring about the warming effect and look at what happen. By the time I was able to get the hose off the pressure was low and the compressor cut off. I added another can of 134a and the compressor kicked back on. I needed another can to top it off but did not feel like going to the store. As long as it ran ice cold I did not care.
So a day go by and tell my pop what I did. Expecting to hear good job son, I heard the words the 91Q use R12 The 93Q is the one I had refitted. The 91Q was the one I refilled with the 134a. I was tired and did not think to ask why there where no 134a fitting on the service port. I figured the shop where it was filled hand the fitting on their service hose. Even while I was going to change the system out now I have to figure out what to do as no one is going to take contaminated stuff.
Another thing is the air is colder then it has ever been.
Is there any danger of eruption and can I change the compressor, drier and condenser along with vaccum it out to fix it or do everything have to go.
