Ok, I just reset my codes on my computer. The CEL was on because I had cleaned the air flow sensor and it freaked out the computer....I cleared the codes by reseting the computer and all is good again........

EXCEPT!!!!

I noticed that my computer resting instructions mentioned to mark the original position of the knob, so I could return it there when I was done. It says if this is not done then it won't function properly.

Well, a couple months back, my girlfriend was having troubles with the alarm, so she went to turn it off the sound. Seeing the flashing light under the seat, she thought that it was the alarm controil module....so she "Turned down the volume knob". At that time I didn't know what it was either so I just assumed it did nothing. We left it turned all the way down.

Anyway, how do I find out where this needs to be set? Is it really that important? What can it mess up?

Thanks -Seth

The module under the drivers seat is the alarm module, your ecm should be under the passenger seat.

Cool, that helps find the alarm.....already figured that one out.....

But how about my question regarding the placement of the ECM control?

How can I find where it needs to be set?

I thought you were confusing the alarm module with the ECM. SORRY.There should be a sticker on the side of the ecm where the hole is, line up the edge of the screw with the line for normal mode. If you check engine light in the dash flashes then you are 180 out. rotate the screw till the other side of the screw blade is lined up with the line on the sticker. If the sticker is missing your pretty much screwed [no pun intended] You will need to find a like model pathfinder and compare the location.

What kind of things does this mess up? Gas mileage? power?

I don't really notice any problems, but what symptoms should I look for?

It wont really effect your fuel milage but the computer may run in diag mode[base mode] all the time. Meaning no timing control or idle control. other then that it will be hardly noticable except the CEL flashing all the time.
