My 1991 Nissan chest restaints on both sides of the car do not function most of the time. Is there a relay that controls the retractors?

What is the purpose of automatic seatbelts. They were deemed unsafe without the lap belt (Which must be put on manually)

So whats the deal? it takes just as much effort then. Why have automatic seatbelts at all when you still have to reach down to put on the lap belt. It eliminates NOTHING. and its just annoying when it smacks you in the face getting out of your car. If anything it is a hinderence.

They plug into a copper box under your center console, check to see if they are plugged in all the way. Mine came loose once.

I dont know if you got a good answere but to my knowledge...if there is anything wrong with the seat belts...you should take them to the dealership and have them checked out. My auto seatbelts didnt work and they replaced them for free. By law the dealership has to replace safety units that are malfunctioned regardless how old the vehicle is...At least to my knowledge. Its worth the try and hey!!...if they fix it ...guess what?!?! Its free and brand new..the worse they can say is NO..good luck and hope this was good info to all that needed it.

My manual ones were replaced free by dealership. They were quite persistent about calling me to make an appointment so I think they make money on doing recall work. I dont know if the recall covers auto seatbelts.
