I had to rev my engine to at least 3000rpm for my original alternator to start charging in my 1991 nissan 4x4. I replaced the alternator and I still have to rev above 3000rpm. Anybody know of some other relay or is it still the alternator?

hows your belt tension, battery terminal connections, fuse link connections, and the ends of the cables at the starter, block and body? all those should be checked but typically when the need to rev the engine to shut down the dash lights is present its internal altenator unless there is a problem as mentioned above. one question though first. did you remember to reconnect the small ground lug to the altenator?
