alright ive got a 1991 maxima and the car wont start. i recently bought the car from a guy and he had the same issue but didnt go into detail about how to fix it. basically theres a stock security system and i cannot for the life of me find any information on the net on how to bypass it. if anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

i dont know if this is the exact problem but you could get the code for the keyless entry checked out. you know the little number under the drivers and front passengers door.

hopefully the guy you bought it off gave you a little tag on the keys which says somin like 'please retain tag: see owners manual'. take it to a service dept at a nissan dealer and they should help with that- but again that might not help starting

it could also be a problem with the immobiliser so you may want to get that checked out. other than that im not sure!

good luck with it!

Yeah, if it's a GXE, the starter is disabled while the alarm is tripped. Only way to disable the alarm is to put in the correct code on the door keypad.

If you don't know the code and can't find out from the previous owner, you can try a couple of methods to recover it.If you have the original documentation, there will be a very small metal plate on a keyring. It has a number stamped on it that a dealer can use to reference the car's code.Otherwise, you can try calling a dealer and asking if they can look it up by VIN. They might be able to, but there's no guarantee.

I almost bet its not the security system though... when you turn the key is there a click or nothing?

Sounds like more of an electrical issue to me. Might check the condition of the battery and the connections to the battery, make sure the terminals are clean.

that is something i need to do. the batteyr is good. i tested it. voltmeter ftw.

im gonna check the engine grounds and fusebox + wire going into it. *10 or 8 gauge wire*

some stuff has defintalty been messed with so ima start tracking stuff down. but first thing is first im gonna try that keycode in the door. if that doesnt even beep ill know its a + or ground issue.

See I'm not so sure about that.

I know I had problems when I 1st bought mine because I didn't know the code as well.

After setting the alarm off in a Dairy Queen parking lot and spending 2 hours trying everything under the sun...I found that if you lock all of your doors and then unlock them with then keys it shut off the alarm and I was again able to start my car. Although IIRC my head lights still worked when it went off...but maybe not.

Either way if you haven't tried that...do it now. Then if its still a no go...I'm afraid mtcookson's right and you've got yourself some electrical issues.
