Post

I recently bought a 1991 Infiniti M30 with 130,000 miles. The car seems to have been owned by an older person... not ragged out.

The car seems to run fine at times.. good power, smooth and quiet. Then it will sputter and not run over 2,000 rpm. It seems to act like its missing.. I put a new cap and rotor button on the distributor.. still nothing. Yesterday I drove all day and it didn't do it at all, today has been on and off.

Need help please!

New plugs and wires, when? BG44k to clean injectors.Low mileage probably means abusive city traffic or just sitting and rotting.

Find a Nissan 300z specialty shop since same as 85-89 engine transmission.

New plugs, wires, cap and rotor button. Still has the problem. The car seems to be going into its safe mode around 2,000rpm at times. When it is having its sputtering fit, it now dies and is getting worse. When I disconnected the MAF sensor it just went to normal safe mode and would idle and run to 2,000rpm. When I plug the MAF back in it starts sputtering again.

MAF sensor? Is this a common problem?

I checked the fuel pressure.. it was fine and it has a new fuel filter.

Engine also runs fine till 2,000rpms in safe mode, I wouldn't think that a bad fuel injector would let it do this.

Automatic? Check the TCU codes via self diagnostic in FSM.

Maybe a bad connection in MAF or something else you took apart? A Consult scan will do miracles for aiding in diagnostcs.

It was the MAF sensor. I found one at a junk yard for $7 dollars. Car runs great now. Out of about 10 Maximas, only one had a MAF left on it. This must be a pretty commom problem.
