Hey Guys,I was wondering, can the distributor for a 1991 240sx be put in backwards?

I own a 1993 sentra dn it CANNOT be put in backwards, it only goes in one way. Is the KA24de motors distro only able to be installed one way? or can you screw the pooch big tim by being able to put it in backwards? thanks alot guys

I don't think it can be put in backwards, but it is easy to install it 180 degrees off (as far as timing goes).

What if the dingleberry that messed with it before rotated the cap 180 degrees, would it be able to be put back into the head? or would it not go into the head with the prong off by 180 deg.

Thanks

On the SOHC KA only (I have no personal experience with much else....):

The distributor can only mate to the oil pump shaft (hence 'go in') one way. HOWEVER it is entirely possible to have the oil pump one tooth or more off from the crank gear, thereby throwing the entire timing off. Look for the half moon shape at the bottom of the distributor shaft, this is what mates to the oil pump.

If the DOHC is similar, than you now know what to look for.

Thanks man, I couldn't think of the name "shaft". It was a long day of database programming. uhh... those days suck. But that is how my lady's sentra is too. that is how I thought it would be.

Here is where I am at now...I did a tune up, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, and new starter too.

I am getting backfire through the intake and if I dont have a intake pipe on, then flame (small 6-8 inches) shoots out the throttle body.

The car sounds like it wants to start moreso when I am either modulating the gas pedal or full wide open throttle start attempts.

Like I said before....I got this from a foo. and not a too wong kind, but I guess either kind of foo isn't good.

Lataz

Thanks

Dustin

Well then your best bet is to remove the valve cover, set the motor to TDC on the compression stroke, and check the alignment of the distributor. The rotor should point to #1, and you will see a tiny notch on the lip of the distributor letting you that is #1. If it isnt, someone put the oil pump in wrong, and the distributor cant go in correct because of it.

Also, make sure you have your firing order correct, that someone didnt just rotate the cap with the wires still on.

I''ll be checking all of this tonight, I meant to do this last night, but I was hella busy with other stuff..

Also with reference to the oil pump, its on the bottom of the block not near the distributor. Are you thinking of the ka24e? this is a ka24de. I dont know about the ka24e though.

Thanks

IT turns out that the distributor is a swirl type that can be placed in at any degree of rotation desired...he had taken it out I guess... and placed it back in about 180 degrees off. Through the timing....the sonofabitch started....Now I have a new problem....I had checked for oil and the dipstick was broken at the handle....I asked him about it and he said "ahh man I have the same problem with my integra"...I know alot more about cars than this fool...but he's just that...a fool...

Anyways back to the new problem...It sounds like the absolute worst rod knock I have ever heard. I am now convinced that the dipstick broke off and is now wrapped conveniently around the crankshaft. I had pulled plugs to test for which rod was knocking. and also had a friend start it while I was listening at the oil pan.

It sounds like it is coming from RIGHT around where the dipstick goes into the block. I have bought some liquid gasket seal (silicone) and am going to drop the pan tomorrow night and see if that is the case. I also bought another longblock (ka24de) for a rebuild to a wicked ka24de-t or ka24de-rt block with experimental prototype race parts. So worst case scenario I drop the block and replace with the new built one once the proto's start rolling through.

I'll post again with a new link to the new problem.

Thanks again for all the help!

Dustin
