First off my apologies. I own A 1991 Q45 but the main reason for owning it is to remove the r200 differential. My plan is to subsitute it into 1971 triumph TR6 (a weak point in these cars). Eventual I will swap out the motor for something more powerful. The infinity itself is running and has 272000 km on it but the timing chain has skipped a tooth ergo I got it for next to nothing.

So my question to you is how difficult is it to remove the differential? I have it up on jack stands and I note that attemptong to remove the flange bolts is very difficult. I cannot get in there with a ratchet only a wrench (14mm). Now I have applied some liquid wrench but I wounder if the bolts are lock tite on and do I need to use heat? I don't want to round the bolt heads. Any suggestions you may have would be great. :bang And I again apolgize for dropping in on your forum. :)

Welcome! :wavey:

Yep, I just use two wrenches and sometimes slip a pipe over one if the nuts are being difficult.
Once the bolts for the driveshaft and axles are off, it's pretty simple to remove.

Got any pictures of the Triumph?

Thanks I used the 2 wrenches in tandam one giving me extra leverage and the the bolts cracked and released so after a couple of hours the diff is laying on the garage floor. Still have to pull the drive shaft. Eventually this wil mate up with a t5 transmission an ford 2.3 l turbo engine. these will go into the triumph pictured below. Thanks for responding to, and helping out, a fellow car enthusiast. Cheers. :bowrofl: :bigthumb:

No problem!
That's a clean looking Triumph. I'm a big fan of those!

Thanks. It is a nice car with some inherent weakness". The engine only puts out 100 hp. The improved off line performance of the turbo engine with the bullet proof r200 diff will make it a fun car to drive.

Very cool build! TR6s are great-looking little roadsters. I'm a HUGE fan of the 2.3 turbo Ford, too. Please post pictures of your progress! We might be a Nissan owners' forum, but a great project is a great project regardless of brand.

I've owned a Q45 AND a 2.3 Ranger, so this one definitely appeal to me.

Okay will do when it gets down to it. I'm going to start the 2.3l turbo tear down this weekend. Like most builds this will take time.

What was the final drive ratio on the Triumph? The Q45's ratio is pretty tall, so I wonder if the differential from the Q45 will actually hinder your performance?

Triumph is 3.69 final drive r200 is 3.54 but first gear is 3.35 in the t5 but with the 2.3l turbo and the triumph being 1000 lbs lighter than a turbo coupe I should get decent off the line performance with a bit of a stretch between 4 and 5 th gear or so I am told. I don't want a drag car but it should still be decent.

Please feel free to post pictures of your build here we enjoy this kind of thing. I wonder would the Q45 V8 fit in your TR? :-)

Well I thought about the aluminum block engine in the triumph and if the original would have had less miles and not skipped a tooth on the timing chain I may have considered it. Lots of tr6 have ford or Chevy small block. It just means a bit more cutting of the fire wall and closer tolerances trying to keep the steering rack where it is. I wanted something a bit simpler. I almost went with an old Buick 315 (rover v8). But all in all this was simpler to do and if I keep all the stock parts it can always be put back to original stock. I notice you have A Miata Now there are v8 kits for that car. Would be pretty sweet!

Well, if you get tired of the 3.5, the differential out of a J30 would be almost the same to the stock ratio. Just FYI.

Thanks appreciate the heads up. I m not sure the diff out of a j30 would fit. It has to be a diff without the abs sensor in the nose. these are a bit too long also I believe the drive axle flange is 3x2 holes as opposed to 6 or 5 holes evenly spaced. This makes them easier to mount to the tr6 drive axles.

The sideshaft internal part should be the same for both even though the outside bolt holes differ, I can check around to be sure if you want... The difference between the housing with the ABS sensor and the non-abs is only 5/8" or less anyway. Lots of guys with 240sx cars (myself included, back in the day) had no trouble mating the standard driveshaft up to it without any problems although some consider the extra length to be hard on the u-joint... no real way to be sure on that without some serious testing for sure.

Hell, you might even be able to take out the diff assembly and put it in the other housing. I think the worm gears are the same?

I wanted a rear wheel drive convertable and have been watching for Boxsters, Miata's and Z3/4's. I drove a few then I saw my Miata asking $500 on craigslist and got it for $400. I'm not sure what the future holds for it but I'm certain I will own it my entire life. V8 might be the final result but I'm feeling like 6-10psi turbo and a transmission swap are going to be the first mods.

Hey I appreciate the offer. :) I will stick with the 3.54 right now.The hardware that I will use to mount the diff only works with the short nose differential
