The oil light is on/off, but more on than off. And there is a pinging noise. there is no knocking or its not smoking or running hot. I took it to several mechanics in my area but most of them don't mess with Infiniti and send me to places 50-100 miles away which Im not taking my car that far. Others people in the neighborhood think its the oil pump. I dont want to invest in an oil pump if thats not what the problem. I really want to fix it before it get worse and mess with the engine completely. Please somebody give me some suggesting!!!!!!!!

You can spend weeks trying to do a shade tree diagnosis. In this time your engine may or may not survive.

A professional diagnosis will cost some $$, but in the long run it is worth saving time, aggravation and throwing $$ parts at the car.

I took my son's Mitsubishi to PEP boys today to figure out an off idle stumble that we've been chasing for a couple weeks now. They ID'd the problem, and fixed it before noon. Cost was $75 for the diag which went towards labor to fix it , and another $50 in parts.

Not that I would overall recommend PEP boys, but the guy at my local store is very good.

The oil pump is friction driven from the crank shaft and if the crankshaft dampener nut is no torqued to oem specs after a front main seal replacement low oil pressure can be the result.

That said I've seen 80,000 mile Q engines destroyed by sludge from not changing oil every 90-180 days.

How many miles on engine?

I was going to say the same thing.....Make sure the crankshaft bolt is torqued to spec. (eg: FRIGGIN TIGHT!!!)

VH45 oil pumps simply dont fail. If the crank pulley has been off recently, its that bolt.

if your oil light is on because of low oil pressure then your motor is probably screwed...

The obvious first choice would be to check the connector and harness going to the oil switch. Ive never heard of anything like that happening, but

Check the crank bolt and then hook up an oil pressure gauge to see if the pressure is in spec.
