Thought we would post a few pics of our new race car. We bought this Q45a in December to race in the 24 Hours of LeMon race in Texas Feb. 27-29. The forum has helped us understand a few of the issues we have had with the car and the suspension. It may look a little ugly in its raw form but the roll cage, race seat and fire extinguisher sure do make it look mean. And yes those are hood pins. If anyone is near Houston next weekend stop on out and check out the race. If you are a good Q45 mechanic we may need you to keep the car running. The active suspension right now is seemingly working, although 1.25" to high and very stiff. After 2 months of work we still can't figure out how to fix that. If someone wants to be our suspension expert in the pits the beer is on us.

I just died inside.

I want a white Q to compliment my black one.

Good luck on your race.

Texasoil here. The stiffness is most likely because all 4 of the strut accumulators are flat.

The high ride height may be caused by the H/N switch being in the H position.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is true the Q Ship will definitely be one of the largest cars in the race and one of the few with a V8. The rules only allow a 500 dollar budget excluding safety equipment so no money will be used for engine mods as the car cost us nearly that. The previous owner gave up on the car as he could not get the suspension to work. It came with new struts and a broken fluid line near the rear accumulators from an apparent run in with a snow plow. We were able to braze it back together as we could not find a replacement and after a couple nights of replacing the struts we had a somewhat fixed machine. Once we fixed that we bled the system according to TexasOil's tip sheet on his website. That was a HUGE help. We are going to have to run it high and tight as the rules won't allow us to spend the money on new accumulators. Thanks for the tip though. We are able to sell parts off the car and able to spend that money above the $500 limit but so far no takers on parts. Maybe if we get any money out of the second set of much nicer BBS wheels or the airbag we may be able to pickup the accumulators before the next race if we don't get crushed during this one.The races are usually covered fairy well on Jalopnik and Autoblog as well as in some of the auto mags. Time to load up the race trailer and start our 1000 mi trek to Houston. We will try to give you guys a wrap up when we get back.

Wanna swap all the active suspension components for non-active suspension components?

Seriously
