Ok I've had the car about a week now when I bought it wasn't running. Ive replaced spark plugs, injectors, fuel pump, starter, maf. The car runs without the maf plugged in but is in limit mode. With new maf plugged it sometimes it will idle other times it just dies and when I give it gas the car just dies. I dont think it's timing because it runs fine with the maf unplugged just won't rev past 2.5k. I'm completely stumped and I'm getting tired of replacing everything.

Compression test simply to make sure you bought a viable motor that will even run.

I've seen timing jumped in such a way to run exactly as you describe, it even idled perfectly, just refused to rev over 2500 rpm.

Have you tried pulling codes off of the ecu? Its pretty easy takes about 5-10 minutes, flathead screwdriver and a 10mm socket. Don't shotgun; troubleshoot.
